Ever wish your permanent mark wasn’t so permanent?

That tattoo may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but what if it’s time for a change? The most common method for removing a tattoo is by lasers. Laser tattoo removal uses light energy, or wavelengths, to target and separate the different pigments in a tattoo. Once the pigment is broken down, your body absorbs it. Using this technique doesn’t destroy the surrounding skin, avoiding scar formations.

Regardless of the size, color or age of your tattoo, you’ll need more than one treatment to fully remove it. Newer tattoos can take longer since they haven’t had the chance to loose the pigment that naturally occurs over time. Several sessions are recommended to protect the skin from potential damage and scarring. The number of sessions depends on the kinds and amount of pigment that comprises the tattoo, and how many colors it contains.

Treated areas must be maintained between treatments, just like an abrasion. Application of a topical antibiotic ointment to the tattoo is essential for proper healing. Ensure the area is covered with a bandage for three to seven days after each treatment. This will prevent scarring.

Your skin may be a little lighter than usual because the laser is removing pigments including sun pigmentation. This is normal. Keep in mind that the results you are seeing are gradual. Six months to a year after the full treatment cycle, the initial tattoo will hardly be visible.
