Lasers + Fillers
For wrinkles, like the ones that are the result of sun exposure, an ablative fractional resurfacing treatment can be used to erase them. The combination of fractional laser resurfacing and fillers is a one-two punch: the laser prompts new collagen to form to smooth out wrinkles while the filler plumps up existing wrinkles. “Fractional laser resurfacing is really your best bet for wrinkles because it produces new collagen,” says Montclair, NJ dermatologist Jeanine Downie, MD. “When it comes to correcting wrinkles, you really want to spend wisely. The combination of fractional resurfacing and fillers or Botox will probably give you the best results,” she says.

For a quick fix that’s less expensive with no downtime, neurotoxins are an option. Botox prevents muscle contractions to help stop wrinkles from forming. Hyaluronic acid fillers can also be used. Instead of preventing new wrinkles from arising, they attract water internally to swell the line or wrinkle and plump it up. “One way to make your results last longer is to have as much correction done, with hyaluronic acid fillers, so that your results last longer. It also makes maintenance sessions easier,” says Dr. Lupo.

A series of light chemical peels
Light chemical peels may not be as intense of a solution for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, but they do help and you will notice subtle improvement. “They really work best for very fine lines and wrinkles,” says Dr. Downie. Even though they’re the mildest form of wrinkle correction, they usually result in short-term redness and flakiness.

Simply cutting out bad habits, like rubbing your eyes, can save you time and money at the doctor’s office. “When you rub your eyes, the skin underneath it gets stretched out. Rubbing also cements dark pigment into the skin below the eyes. The less you rub, the fewer treatments you’ll need,” explains Dr. Downie.
