The Visia Complexion Analysis

Prior to any skin rejuvenation treatment, a Sōna Consultant gives your skin a thorough assessment with a VISIATM Complexion Analysis System. This self-contained unit captures digital photos of the face and then generates quantitative values by measuring the amount of wrinkles, textures, pores and pigmentation.

This epidermal digital technology can help save the skin from rapid aging by accurately diagnosing adverse conditions that may not show on the surface of the skin for another ten years.

Once the image is gathered, a customized report is created on-screen and then printed for you. This report provides eight snapshots of your face revealing the damage on and beneath the surface of your skin. Scores are displayed that represent the number of individual skin features detected within the masked area of your face. The skin features measured are: Spots, Pores, Wrinkles, Texture, Porphyrins, UV Spots, Red Areas, & Brown Spots.

Spots are typically brown or red skin lesions including freckles, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation and vascular lesions. Spots are distinguishable by their distinct color and contrast from the background skin tone.

UV spots occur when melanin coagulates below the skin surface as a result of sun damage. UV spots are generally invisible under normal lighting conditions.

Brown Spots are lesions on and within the skin that produce an uneven appearance, such as hyper-pigmentation, freckles, lentigines, and melasma.  Brown Spots occur from an excess of Melanin.  Melanin is produced by melanocytes in the bottom layer of the epidermis.

Red Areas represent acne, inflammation, Rosacea or spider veins. Blood vessels and hemoglobin contained in the papillary dermis, a sub-layer of skin, give these structures their red color.

Wrinkles are furrows, folds or creases in the skin, which increase in occurrence as a result of sun exposure, and are associated with decreasing skin elasticity.

Texture is primarily an analysis of skin smoothness. Texture measures skin color and smoothness by identifying gradations in color from the surrounding skin tone, as well as peaks and valleys on the skin surface that indicate variations in the surface texture.

Pores are the circular surface openings of sweat gland ducts. Due to shadowing, pores appear darker than the surrounding skin tone and are identified by their darker color and circular shape.

Porphyrins are bacterial excretions that can become lodged in pores and lead to acne.

Armed with this information, you and your Sōna Consultant can design a personalized treatment regimen specifically suited to reaching you skin goals. Call us today to learn more and schedule your free personal consultation.
